Quick answers before you start

What should a Corporate Tax support scope distinguish?

Distinguish taxpayer registration, financial-record preparation, return preparation and professional review. Agree the relevant entity and period, the records to be supplied and who approves the tax position before submission.

Does a free-zone licence settle Corporate Tax responsibilities?

No. A free-zone company's registration, filing and any particular tax treatment require their own assessment. Identify the company's circumstances and supporting records rather than assuming that its registered address determines the complete tax position.

What the work covers

Expand a deliverable for the detail.

A taxpayer information file

Bring together the legal entity, financial year, registration status and signatory information for the agreed registration or return task.

A connected evidence pack

Link reconciled accounts to supporting schedules and flag related-party, overseas or other transactions for technical review.

An approval and filing record

Identify the reviewer, authorised submitter and payer, with confirmations and follow-up correspondence retained for the period.

Tax positions require appropriate professional review and taxpayer approval. Confirm any tax-agent appointment separately; preparation does not establish eligibility for a relief or tax outcome.

The work, step by step

From taxpayer review to filed return

Separate registration, financial preparation, technical review and submission so that every part of the Corporate Tax assignment has an owner.

  1. 01

    Review the taxpayer profile

Confirm the legal form, incorporation details, business activities, financial year and existing tax registrations. Identify immediate deadlines and the periods needing attention.

  2. 02

    Complete registration or profile checks

Prepare the entity and signatory documents, review the EmaraTax profile and submit the agreed registration or amendment work through the appropriate authorised access.

  3. 03

    Assemble the financial evidence

Reconcile the accounts and collect schedules for material balances. Create a focused query list for information that affects the tax computation.

  4. 04

    Prepare and review the return

Review the applicable treatment, adjustments and disclosures with the responsible tax professional. Obtain management confirmation of facts and approval of the submission.

  5. 05

    File, settle and archive

Complete the authorised filing, arrange payment through the appropriate channel and retain acknowledgements, calculations and supporting evidence with the period’s records.

Prepare with a clear checklist

Documents required for Corporate Tax support

Registration needs entity and signatory evidence; return preparation needs financial records. The exact pack depends on the taxpayer and the work being requested.

2 preparation items

Registration information

Prepare the incorporation certificate, memorandum or partnership agreement where available, commercial registration and current trade licence, including relevant branch licences.
The FTA checklist requests passport and Emirates ID details for owners holding more than 25% and authorised signatories, together with signatory authorisation.
3 preparation items

Return preparation

Provide the financial statements, detailed ledger and schedules supporting the reporting period, including opening balances and prior-year tax records.
Include material contracts, asset schedules, loan agreements and explanations for unusual transactions or amounts involving owners and related entities.
Share registrations, filed returns, elections, FTA notices and payment records so that the current work follows the company’s established tax history.

Additional documents can be needed for exempt persons, groups, overseas interests or other specific tax positions.

Accounting / The essentials

A clear scope for registration, return preparation and payment

Our Corporate Tax support begins with the legal entity, its financial year and its activities. Registration, maintaining records, preparing a tax computation and filing a return are separate tasks. A useful engagement identifies which of these are required, the periods involved and who will review the tax positions before submission.

Connect the company’s accounts to the return, including revenue, expenses, assets, financing and transactions involving owners or related businesses. Where the accounts are incomplete, define the accounting work first. A mainland licence, free-zone address or low profit does not, on its own, determine the taxpayer’s registration, filing or relief position.

A closer look

Corporate Tax tasks to confirm before engagement

Separate registration administration from return preparation, technical review and payment.

01

Does every trade licence need a separate Corporate Tax registration?

No. The FTA says UAE branches of a domestic juridical person form part of the parent and do not separately register or file for Corporate Tax. This does not decide the treatment of a foreign-company branch, a separate subsidiary or a proposed tax group. First map the legal entities and their licences, then check each taxpayer’s EmaraTax status, financial year and signatory. Keep the ownership chart and existing registration confirmations together before preparing another application or assuming one registration covers the group. 02

Build the return from reconciled financial records

Start the return from a reconciled trial balance and financial statements, then identify the tax adjustments and supporting schedules needed for the company’s circumstances. Transactions involving shareholders, connected persons, related entities or overseas activities deserve explicit review. A tax calculation should be traceable to records rather than rebuilt from bank statements shortly before the deadline.

03

Agree tax review, filing authority and payment

Agree responsibility for the technical review, management approval, filing and payment. A return submission and a payment are distinct events, with separate evidence to retain. If tax-agent representation is required, confirm the appointed agent’s registration and authority. Confirm which adviser reviews the tax treatment and who is authorised to submit on your behalf.

Plan your budget

Corporate Tax fees and engagement scope

A registration-only assignment is different from preparing a return, resolving historic issues or advising on a complex transaction.

Cost components and what each covers
Cost componentWhat to account for
Registration or account amendmentsAdministrative support covers the agreed profile review, document preparation and application follow-up. The FTA’s Corporate Tax registration service itself is free.
Annual computation and returnProfessional work depends on the quality of the accounts, the transaction profile and the technical positions or disclosures requiring review.
Accounting cleanup and specialist analysisUnreconciled books, related-party analysis, group matters or international questions may need separate work before the return can be completed.
Tax payable and other official amountsTax liabilities and any applicable penalties are separate from service fees. The quotation should not blend them into a promised total tax outcome.

Know what happens when

Deadlines and preparation stages

Plan backwards from the company’s own financial year and filing obligations, rather than using a generic calendar for every business.

Before submission

Registration review

Timing depends on the taxpayer category, incorporation history and completeness of identification and authorisation documents.

Published estimate: 20 business days Source: FTA: Corporate Tax registration.

FTA registration processing

The FTA estimate runs from receipt of a completed application. Requests for further information can affect the overall journey.

Generally within nine months of period end Source: FTA: Corporate Tax records and filing responsibilities.

Return and payment

The FTA states the return and tax payment deadline by reference to the end of the tax period. Set earlier dates for accounts, review and approval.

Looking ahead

After filing and throughout the year

A completed return becomes the starting point for the next period’s records and decisions.

Track material changes

Review changes to ownership, activities, financial year or group structure before they are treated as routine account updates.

Prepare for the next close

Carry forward relevant schedules and note decisions that need revisiting, so the next return does not start with an incomplete history.

UAE Corporate Tax questions

Need to discuss your own circumstances?

Does VAT registration also register my company for Corporate Tax?

No. They are separate tax registrations within EmaraTax. Check that the Corporate Tax application and registration status have been completed for the relevant taxpayer.

Does a free zone company automatically have no Corporate Tax obligations?

No. Registration, filing and the conditions for any particular free zone treatment need separate assessment. The address on the licence does not establish the full tax position.

What if the company made a loss?

A loss does not by itself settle registration or filing responsibilities. Prepare reliable accounts and have the applicable obligations and treatment reviewed for that period.

Can a sole proprietor be within Corporate Tax?

A natural person conducting a UAE business or business activity is within this test when total business turnover exceeds AED 1 million in a calendar year. Wages and qualifying personal-investment and real-estate-investment income are excluded under the applicable definitions. The threshold concerns turnover, not profit. Source: FTA: Corporate Tax basis for natural persons.

Can a return be prepared without final accounts?

Finalising a return from incomplete accounts can leave the tax calculation unsupported. Identify missing bookkeeping records and reconciliations early, then have the responsible tax professional review adjustments and any remaining uncertainty before submission.

Who is responsible for paying the tax?

The taxpayer should arrange and verify payment separately from approving the return. Keep the payment reference and confirmation with the filing acknowledgement so both obligations can be checked.
